Dexterous Hands & Grippers
Choose by the dexterity the task needs, check grip force and weight against your arm, then the interface.
How to compare dexterous hands & grippers
- Active degrees of freedom
- Joints the hand drives on its own. The remaining joints follow through linkages, so a hand with 6 active and 12 movable joints bends each finger as a unit.
- Movable joints
- Every joint that moves, driven or coupled.
- Grip force
- The force the hand or gripper closes with. Check it against the heaviest object, with margin.
- Stroke
- For a gripper, how far the jaws open.
- Tactile sensing
- Pressure sensors in the fingertips and palm that tell the controller what the hand is touching.
- Weight
- What the hand adds at the wrist. It comes off the arm's payload.
